Twenty of us gathered on Saturday, January 31st at this last of the Tiki Bars and Restaurants on the island, harking back to the 50's and 60's Hawai'i. It felt like stepping back in time to a period of romance.
Once all were assembled we observed a moment of silence honoring the memory of our longtime member and friend Brigitte Lesiak who recently passed away.
We introduced our friend Chris von Imhof and his wife Brigitte who are here from Alaska. Chris was the General Manager of all the Prince Hotels in Hawai'i and the "father of the Oktoberfest" on Maui. In later years the Oktoberfest was also celebrated at the Waikiki Prince with our friend Guido providing the culinary delights for quite a number of you to enjoy.
The music and songs from the Don Ho and Elvis Presley area were very much enjoyed by all of us old timers…! When the entertainer asked for us to name an Austrian song we quoted "Edelweiss" and believe it or not our guest Brigitte von Imhof sang it to the crowds enjoyment !
I am glad that Mimi had a chance to sing a couple of songs and that Pepi and Carlotta had the last dance being the longest married couple at 64 years in the restaurant !
A beautiful sunset over the marina closed a very pleasant afternoon.
Thanks to Murray Visser for arranging this wonderful event. Our thanks to master photographers Magda and Renate !
Aloha nui !
